I am Johnson Kwong of the MC Youth Zone of LA Kam Kwong Church. In 2007, I came alone to the United States for studying. In 2010, I came to church and got to know God. I graduated in BS Math and Applied Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2013, I studied for MS Financial Engineering at Claremont Graduate University in California.
After graduating from the master degree, I worked for at a gasoline wholesale and retail company for several years. During that period, I continuously experienced the grace of God. In particular, I successfully obtained a three—year H1-B work visa in 2016. At that time, because of my status, I had not much confidence in my future and often worried about it. So I never fully devoted myself to God. I even stopped tithing as I was fear of lacking. But I am thankful that God never blamed for my lack of faith. Instead, he encouraged me, ‘Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?’ (John 11:40; NIV). Although this scripture pricked my heart, I was still held back by worry and did not commit my future and finances completely to God. Praise the Lord for speaking to me further, ‘You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.’ (James 2:22; NIV). Because of God’s confirmation, I learnt to tithe by faith again. He has given me more blessings when I wholeheartedly devoted myself to Him. At Christmas 2017, I received a $1000 prize from my company, on which there was a message attached: ‘Merry Christmas! Jesus is the Lord. From your brother in Christ.’ Not only that, my boss promised to help me apply the Green card in the coming year, and he even paid for the application fee. This is truly the work of God. ‘The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.’ (Proverb 10:22; NIV).
In addition to the experience in my workplace, God has repaired my relationship with my family. I do not like to talk since my childhood. I everything to myself and rarely share with others. When I was still in Hong Kong, my father worked long hours every day, so we rarely had chance to talk to each other. After I had come to the United States, our interaction became even less. However, during a cell group meeting, through the sharing of the brothers and the encouragement by my cell leader, God helped me to take the initiative to care for my family. Praise the Lord, when I took the initiative to call my father a few months ago, we talked for more than 20 minutes. Not only did the talk let me know more of my father’s needs, but it also let me feel the depth of my father’s love. We had never talked for more than five minutes before. Since then, God has taught me to cherish the time with my family and to bring the love of Christ into my home.
It is a blessing to have known God and experienced His grace at LA Kam Kwong Church. God has sent spiritual companions to surround me like a cloud. When I was weak and about to give up, the prayers
by my brothers and sister, and the support by my spiritual leader gave me the courage to continue to dream for God and live an excellent life for Him. May all glory be to our God!
